Gregorian → Hijri

Wednesday, Jumada I 17, 1448 AH
(17 / 5 / 1448 AH)

Hijri → Gregorian

Month numbers: 1 Muharram, 2 Safar, 3 Rabi al-Awwal, 4 Rabi al-Thani, 5 Jumada al-Awwal, 6 Jumada al-Thani, 7 Rajab, 8 Sha'ban, 9 Ramadan, 10 Shawwal, 11 Dhul Qa'dah, 12 Dhul Hijjah.

How it is calculated — and its limits

Gregorian → Hijri uses the Umm al-Qura calendar built into your browser. Hijri → Gregorian is computed by the same calendar in reverse: the date is estimated from the Hijri epoch and then matched exactly, day by day — again entirely in your browser, with no external service involved.

Limits: Umm al-Qura is a calculated calendar. For dates before its calculated range or in communities that rely purely on sighting, treat results as accurate to within about a day and verify important religious dates locally.

How to use it

  1. For Gregorian → Hijri, pick the date on the left and read the result instantly.
  2. For Hijri → Gregorian, type the Hijri day, month number and year on the right and press Convert.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my Hijri birthday?

Enter your Gregorian birth date in the left converter. The result is your Hijri birth date — and because the Hijri year is shorter, your Hijri birthday arrives about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year.

Is the conversion exact?

It is exact for the Umm al-Qura calculated calendar. Historical dates and dates observed by local moon sighting can differ by a day, occasionally two for very old records.

What does AH mean?

AH stands for Anno Hegirae — 'year of the Hijrah' — counting years from the Prophet Muhammad's migration from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE.
